The Cure’s summary

Repentance runs through the book as the answer to sin. Ibn al-Qayyim repeats the saying that the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin (A384-3). He reports a disagreement over whether the penitent returns to the rank he held before the sin, and gives his own view: depending on the strength of the repentance and the humility the sin produced in him, he may rise above it, or, if the sin has weakened him, fail to regain it (A207-2, A208-2, A211-2). He also warns that sins gradually weaken the will to repent until it can disappear entirely (A141-1).

Written for The Cure and checked against the Arabic — not Ibn al-Qayyim’s words. Each claim rests on A384-3, A207-2, A208-2, A211-2, A141-1.
