الاغترار
Self-deception and false hope
Ibn al-Qayyim gives a long discussion to the person who keeps sinning while relying on Allah's mercy. He distinguishes good expectation of Allah, which drives a person to act, from delusion, which invites idleness and immersion in sin (A086-1). He lists forms of this self-deception — misplacing reliance on Allah's generosity (A041-4, on Q 82:6), or claiming that a servant has no choice over his sins (A038-7) — and names as the most deluded of all the one deceived by this world over the next (A079-2).

فقد تبين الفرق بين حسن الظن والغرور» وأنّ حسن الظن إن حمل على العمل َ وحثّ عليه» وساق إليه» فهو صحيح. وإن دعا إلى البطالة والانهماك فى المعاصى» فهو غرور.

وأتى سبحانه بلفظ «الكريم» ٠» وهو السيّد العظيم المطاع الذي لا ينبغي الاغترار به ولا إهمال حقّه؛ فوضع هذا المغترٌ الغرور في غير موضعه» واغترٌ بمن لا ينبغي الاغترار به.

ومن هؤلاء المغرورين من يتعلق بمسألة الجبرء وأن العبد لا فعل له البتة ولا اختيار 6 وإنما هو مجبور على فعل المعاصى.

وحسن الظن هو الرجاء. فمن كان رجاؤه حاديً له على الطاعة؛ زاجرًا له عن المعصية فهو رجاء صحيح. ومن كانت بطالته رجاء؛ ورجاؤه بطالة وتفريطاء فهو المغرور.
