Classification: Statement of the Salaf (as cited) (attribution formula: وكان بعض السلف)
وكان بعض السلف يقول في خطبته: ألا رب مهين لنفسه وهو يزعم أنه لها مكرم؛ ومُذِلٌ لنفسه وهو يزعم أنه لها مُعِزَ؛ ومصغرٍ لنفسه وهو يزعم أنه لها مكبّر؛ ومضيّع لنفسه و هو يزعم أنه مراع لحقّها. وكفى بالمرء جهلا أن يكون مع عدّوه على نفسه» يبلغ منها بفعلَه (1ه/1] مالا يبلغه عدو. والله المستعان.

قيل: نعم» ينسى نفسّه أعظم نسيان. قال تعالى: # ولا توا كآَزِنَ ثرا اله تأَسَهُم شه وك هُمْ لفوت 462 [الحشر/.]١١ فلما نسوا ربّهم سبحانه نسيهم وأنساهم أنفسهم كما قال: دنا الله توي # [التوبة/ 77]» فعاقب سبحانه من نسيّه عقوبتين: إحداهما: أنه سبحانه نسيه. والثانية: أنّه أنساه نفسّه.
