والمقصود أن العبد قد يكون بعد التوبة خيرًا مما كان قبل الخطيئة وأرفع درجةً. وقد تُضوف الخطيئة همّته؛ وتُوهن عزمّه؛ وتمرض قلبّه؛ فلا يقوى دواء التوبة على إعادته إلى الصحة الأولى» فلا يعود إلى درجته. وقد يزول المرض بحيث تعود الصحة كما كانت » ويعود إلى مثل عمله» فيعود إلى درجته.
