والمقصود أن الذنوب من أقوى الأسباب الجالبة لهذه الثمانية. كما أنها من أقوى الأسباب الجالبة لجهد البلاء» ودرك الشقاء؛ وسوء القضاء» وشماتة الأعداء؛ ومن أقوى الأسباب الجالبة لزوال نعم الله وتحوّل عافيته» وفجاءة نقمته؛ وجميع سَخطه؟:

ومن عقوبات الذنوب أنها تُزيل النَُم وتُجل التم. فما زالت عن العبد نعمة إلا بذنب» ولا حلت به نقمة إلا بذنب؛ كما قال على بن أبى طالب رضي الله عنه: ما نزل بلاء إلا بذنب» ولا رفع بلاء إلا بتوبة.
