وأخسنٌ الناس همَّةٌ وأوضعهم نفسًا من رضي من الحقائق بالأماني الكاذبة؛ واستجلبها لنفسه؛ وتحلى بهاء وهي - لعمر الله - رؤوس أموال المفلسين» ومتاجر البطالين. وهي قوت النفس الفارغة التي قد قنعت من الوصل بزّورة الخيال» ومن الحقائق بكواذب الأمال» كما قال الشاعر:

وهي أضرٌ شيء على الإنسان» وتتولّد من العجز والكسل» وتولّد التفريط والحسرة والندم. والمتمّي لما فاته مباشرة الحقيقة بحسّه نحَتَ صورتها في قلبه؛ وعانقهاء وضمّها إليه؛ فقنع بوصال صورة وهميةٍ خياليّة صوّرها فكرّه» وذلك لا يُجدي عليه شيئًا؛ وإنما مثله مثل الجائع والظمآن يصوّر في وهمه صورة الطعام والشراب» وهو يأكل ويشرب.
