وذكر الإمام أحمد وغيره عن قتادة: قال موسى: يا رب أنت في السماء» ونحن في الأرض» فما علامة غضبك من رضاك؟ قال: إذا استعملتُ عليكم خياركم فهو من علامة رضاي عنكم؟ وإذا استعملتُ [1/33] عليكم شراركم فهو علامةٌ سخطي عليكم.

وذكر أيضًا من حديث ابن عمر يرفعه: «والذي نفسي بيده؛ لا تقوم الساعة حتى يبعث الله أمراءً كذبةً؛ ووزراء فجرة؛ وأعوانًا خونة؛ وعرّفاء ظلمة 6 وقُرّاء فِسَة. سيماهم سيما الرهبان ًّ وقلوبهم أنتن من الجيّف. أهواؤهم مختلفة؛ فيتيح الله لهم فتئة غبراءً مظلمة؛ فيتهاوكون فيها. والذي نفس محمد بيده؛ لُِنْقَضُنَ الإسلام عروة عروة » حتى لا يقال: الله الله. لتأمرنٌ بالمعروف 6 ولتنهونٌ عن المنكر 6 أو لَيِسلْطْنَ اللَهُ عليكم شراركم فليّسومُنكم سوء العذاب. ثم يدعو خيارُكم» فلا يستجاب لهم. لتأْمرّنٌ بالمعروف» ولتنهون عن المنكرء أو ليبعثنٌ الله عليكم من لا يرحم صغيركم » ولا يوقّر كبيركم.
