The Cure’s summary

Ibn al-Qayyim describes how sins sow their like and breed one another until leaving them becomes hard (A139-2): when the habitual sinner abandons a sin and turns to obedience, his soul feels constricted until he returns to it — and many, he notes, commit it without even finding pleasure in it (A139-3). He warns that relying on Allah's pardon while persisting is like obstinacy (A051-2), and notes that the Ramaḍān fast and the Friday prayer expiate minor sins only together with avoiding the major ones (A043-1).

ومنها أن المعاصي دزرع أمثالها ويولد ١ بعضها بعضا حتى يعز ل على العبد مفارقتها والخروج منهاء كما قال بعض السلف: إن من عقوبة السيئةٍ السيئةً بعدها» وإنّ من ثواب الحسنةٍ الحسنة بعدها. فالعبد إذا عمل 11/970 حسنة قالت أخرى إلى جانبها: اعملني أيضًاء فإذا عملها قالت الثانية كذلك»؛ وهلم جرّاء فتضاعف الربح 5 ٠ وتزايدت الحسنات. وكذلك جانب؟ السيئات أيضاء حتى تصيرالطاعات والمعاصى هيئات راسخة وصفات لازمة وملكات ثابتة. فلو عطل المحسن الطاعة لضاقت عليه نفسه» وضاقت عليه الأرض بما رحبت » وأحسنّ من نفسه بأنه كالحوت إذا فارق الماء» حتىّ يعاودهاء فتسكن نفسه» وتَقرٌ عينه.

فرمضان [إلى رمضان] والجمعة إلى الجمعة لا يقوى على تكفير الصغائر إلا مع انضمام ترك الكبائر إليها؛ فيقوى مجموع الأمرين على تكفير الصغائر. فكيف يكمر صومُ يوم تطوّع كل كبيرة عملها العبد؛ وهو مصرّ عليهاء غير تائب منها؟ هذا محال» على أنه لا يمتنع أن يكون صوم يوم عرفة ويوم عاشوراء مكفرًا لجميع ذنوب العام على عمومه؛ ويكون من نصوص الوعد التي لها شروط وموانع» ويكون إصراره على الكبائر مانعًا من التكفير. فإذا لم يصرّ على الكبائر تساعدٌ الصومُ وعدم الإصرار وتعاونا على عموم التكفير ٠» كما كان رمضان والصلوات الخمس مع اجتئاب الكبائر متساعدذين متعاونين على تكفير الصغائر + مع أنه سبحانه قد قال: # إن تَحَتَيْبوَا حكباير ما لنهُونَ عَنَّهُ نَكَفْر عَنكم ايك [النساء/.]3١
